Since it's Memorial Day, I want to share some of my favorite memories of Jack. It's been almost 2 years since he went home to be with Jesus! I know he's having a great time, and it's so comforting to know that he's no longer suffering, but that he's healed and free.
My mom had videotaped Jack during one of his stays in the PICU. He was so very sick, but something I was saying to him made him get the giggles. It's about a minute and a half of pure viewing pleasure!!! She keeps it on her computer desktop, so I get to watch it whenever I go for a visit. His laughter lit up the room :)
Another time, I went to visit him at school on a random day. The teachers had been telling me that he was using his walker on a pretty regular basis, but I just thought that they were helping him. I'd never seen him do it on his own, because he never used it at home. So, I'm standing in the hallway and here comes Jack, all by himself, using this walker like a master. Wow! I was so overwhelmed with emotion! It was one of those "firsts" that you just want to savor.
John and I and the kids are going out to the cemetery today to put some flowers out and spend some time thanking our Lord for the wonderful opportunity that He gave us in being Jack's family. We've been given a gift, and we are so grateful for His love and mercy, and faithfulness. Thanks God!
